Cassava exports from Vietnam enter US billion dollar club

Since the beginning of this year to mid-September, export turnover of cassava will exceed US$1 billion, an increase of $250 million compared to the same period last year, announced the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.



For the first time, cassava is listed among seven of Vietnam’s agricultural export staples that bring in revenues worth at least US$1 billion for the country

Vietnam exported more than 3.2 million tons of maniocs in the first eight months, according to the Customs Bureau, bringing in turnover of nearly $974.5 million, an increase by 67.5 percent in volume and 43 percent in value.


Since June 6, 2012, the country has exported an average of 244,000 tons of manioc and earned more than $83 million in revenue.

The important markets for manioc export among Asian countries is China, Korea, Taiwan (China), Philippines, Malaysia and Japan.

For the first time, cassava is listed among seven of Vietnam’s agricultural export staples that have entered the US billion dollar club, which includes commodities that bring in revenues worth at least US$1 billion for the country. The billion-dollar agricultural products include seafood, rice, coffee, rubber, wood, cashew nut, and manioc.
